Learn About the Why of our Race
Dorothy P. Ott's Warrior Spirit
The Matoaca community lost a beloved friend in a car crash on Woodpecker Road on June 11, 2018. Her husband, children, grandkids, family members, friends, and colleagues all miss her dearly. Her Warrior family wanted to find a positive way to remember her energetic spirit which is why we originally started organizing a race in her memory. For twelve of her twenty-four years as a front office secretary at Matoaca High School, she cruised the halls and campus to stay healthy and get her steps in for the day. We found it to be a natural decision to organize a 5K in her honor. Full proceeds of this race will be used to build the Dorothy P. Ott Scholarship Fund to help graduating seniors with college expenses. Dorothy's husband Lonnie, her daughter Toni, and her son Cody are all part of the scholarship selection committee. We are proud of how many people and organizations participated the two years we had the 5K. Whether you volunteered, donated, sponsored, or participated...WE THANK YOU! Thank you for visiting our site and we hope to see you on the race course!

VOLUNTEER.We need plenty of volunteers to help make our event successful. Please consider donating the most valuable thing of all - your time! Two things Dorothy loved to do was to help others and spend time having fun with family and friends. In the past, we had over 100 volunteers who helped make the day run as smoothly as it did. We hope to double the number of volunteers and race participants this year! Check back here on March 1, 2024 when we will have an active link for people to sign up below.
